I’m working on gathering resources and inspiration on one of my favourite activities – writing and the teaching of writing. I am really excited about the possibility of using this as a tool to manage my internet FOMO.
Listening to a talk on thinking about the impact of language on schooling success. We call any language at the highest level Home Language – what would happen if we called it something else? Something clearer or at least something that moved away from away from the idea that above language was a complete language? What about X (Fill in the relevant language of your choice) for Learning?
I’ve being doing a MOOC on Writing – English Composition I: Achieving Expertise designed by Denise Comer out of Duke University. Every now and then I hit a significant moment which I want to record. This week I realised that when I read to evaluate I learn. That sounds terribly trite but reading a text, make a claim, and then encountering and evaluating the claims of others has really forced me to learn something about that original text. Could we use this in a classroom? What are the consequences for time, for curriculum, for skills students develop. I must pursue this!
